Our Model Gallery contains photos of a variety of models created for researchers, educators and students. Accompanying each model is a brief description of the protein, and the methods used to create it.
We specialize in the production of one-of-a-kind, alpha-carbon backbone models of proteins, complete with selected sidechains and substrates/ligands. Our models are commonly constructed of nylon using selective laser sintering (SLS). We have recently acquired a new Z Crop color 3D Printer....which allows us to make surface models color-coded features such as electrostatic potential maps.Other formats are also available. Models can be constructed in a range of sizes, up to approximately 10 inches in the greatest dimension.
We use five different rapid prototyping technologies to construct protein models in a variety of different formats. All models are based on atomic coordinate data of known protein structures. These physical models are useful adjuncts to the computer-based visualization in that they allow a tactile interaction with the protein.

We build whole-protein models, as well as focused models on smaller aspects
of larger proteins.
