2019-2020 Science Olympiad
Protein Modeling Event Kits
The 2019-2020 Science Olympiad Modeling Event focuses on a modified CRISPR system that allows for correcting single base mutations in DNA. Teams will model a portion of the cytosine deaminase protein. This protein is used in conjunction with the CRISPR-Cas9 system to target a specific C-G base pair and convert it to a T-A base pair.
Pre-Build Kit materials can be reused for each event this season. The model is based on residues 214-328 of chain A of 5td5.pdb. Visit the MSOE Center for BioMolecular Modeling's (CBM) website for resources to help you hone your protein modeling skills, including the pre-build visualization environment. (2019-2020 resources will be online by October 1.)
The Amino Acid Starter Kit© provides the best preparation for understanding protein structure and function. Save 15% with our Pre-Build Kit and Amino Acid Starter Kit Bundle.
Invitational, Regional and State Protein Modeling Events
Event supervisors, contact your tournament directors to receive test materials and judging models. Note: The CBM is no longer developing test materials for invitational protein modeling events and 3D Molecular Designs is not selling invitational judging models. Check the CBM's website for guidance on running invitationals.
