You can use our prefolded mini toober model of ß-globin to demonstrate protein structure, the important role of hemoglobin in oxygen transport, and the lasting effects of a single amino acid mutation on a protein. Some teachers purchase it in conjunction with the ß-Globin Folding Kit© to use as a sample model. The model also reinforces lessons introduced in our Amino Acid Starter Kit©.

β-Globin Prefolded Model© Teacher Notes

This mini toober model of the ß-globin protein is composed of 3 differently-colored mini toobers that are joined together and shaped to approximate the “topology” of the ß-globin protein. It represents an alpha-carbon backbone model of the protein.
