Folding and Molding Hands-On Protein Structure
Presenter - Keri Shingleton, Ph.D., Holland Hall, Tulsa, Oklahoma
Thursday, March 31st - 1:00pm
During this session we will do a three dimensional exploration of how the properties of amino acid side chains, and their arrangement in the primary structure of protein, determine the tertiary structure of a protein. Once we have built our 3 dimensional protein structure we can explore how a changes in amino acid side chain can impact the functional shape and proper functioning of a protein. Then we can discuss a particular class of proteins, enzymes and how their shape is important to the interactions between enzymes, their substrates and two types of inhibitors.
