The Right Tool for the Right Job: Modeling Structure and Function with Enzymes

Presenter - Kim Parfitt, NCBT/3DMD

Thursday, March 31st - 2:30pm

Teachers investigate stories and models that will engage students in making sense of the structure and function of these molecular marvels. The hands-on models let participants work at the molecular level while text and data-based activities will allow them to apply their understanding to the organismal scale. Teachers will identify how the structure of enzymes influences their function. Teachers will explore how substances can alter the performance of enzymes and how that can impact human health and investigate how understanding enzyme structure and function can lead to medical and scientific advances.
